WE NEED YOUR HELP TO BRING FIBER TO YOUR AREA!

Daviess-Martin County Rural Telephone Corporation better known as RTC Communications is seeking your support in our Office of Community and Rural Affairs’ (OCRA)“Next Level Connections Broadband Grant Program” application.  The grant will support the deployment of our fiber optic infrastructure and service in unserved or underserved areas to residential/end-user customers in Indiana.

Unserved/underserved areas are defined as a census block that does not have, at the time of application, at least one land-based broadband provider offering speeds of at least 25 Mbps download and 3 Mbps upload. In today’s day and age, this is unacceptable and RTC is stepping up to improve this in our area of Indiana.  Mapping inaccuracies impact the delivery of services and grants to our community. A hardship we are currently facing is incorrect mapping from the June 2018 FCC Form 477 in which the grant eligibility is based.  It shows the particular area the grant funding would be applied to as being served but in fact, it’s not.  Just as the census is used to determine congressional districts and the delivery of federal funds and services, it is critical to get this information right, so our residents are not placed in a negative position.

As you know, RTC Communications is your local, member-owned telecommunications cooperative serving the internet, voice and business services needs of customers in Daviess, Martin and Lawrence counties.  RTC customers have access to Intelecyn™ Speed, our world-class broadband internet, riding on the latest optical Fiber To The Premise (FTTP) network reaching speeds of 1 gigabyte, no data caps, and the latest next-generation mesh WIFI network to support the Internet of Things (IoT) in the home or business.

Fiber-optic internet benefits include:

  • increasing the value of residential homes and commercial spaces
  • advantages of work from home opportunities
  • improved healthcare through support for telemedicine and telehealth initiatives
  • the ability to attract and retain businesses to our area
  • overall positive economic development
  • educational institutions are able to take advantage of the latest educational opportunism and offer the best educational opportunities for our students
  • first responders have access to world-class services to help when disaster strikes

With our advanced, state of the art optical fiber network infrastructure, RTC is uniquely equipped to meet and exceed the requirements of the grant and deliver a superior customer experience to those who are unserved/underserved from a communications perspective.  The state has, over the years, approved RTC network construction projects, most recently in Washington where we are creating an unprecedented higher level of internet connectivity for residents.   Additionally, RTC will be contributing significant funds in support of this grant along with technical expertise and coordination of the network build.
