RTC Communications is a leading rural communications company that is continuously expanding and connecting neighborhoods in southern Indiana, serving our customers with world-class internet, voice, and business service solutions. RTC customers have access to Intelecyn™ Speed, our world-class broadband internet, which is riding on the latest optical Fiber-to-the-Premise (FTTP) network, reaching speeds up to 1 Gigabit. Additionally, RTC Communications provides Intelecyn™ Home, our crystal clear and secure voice service, and Intelecyn™ Business services.

As technologies continue to advance, so does our infrastructure along with the equipment, software, and services we provide. In early 2018, RTC transitioned to Metaswitch hardware and software to bring our customers world-class telephonic products and services. In August 2019, RTC announced its largest fiber expansion impacting over 5,500 premise locations into the City of Washington. Also in 2019, RTC’s CEO Kirk Lehman, received the NTCA Excellence in Leadership Award, the highest honor among rural telecommunications companies and its trade organization.

RTC Communications has continued to expand the area it serves by steadily replacing traditional copper infrastructure with cutting-edge fiber optic routes. At the turn of the century, RTC transitioned from the Stromberg-Carlson automatic dial office to the Siemens EWSD, the upcoming digitizing switched that provided cutting-edge telephone services.

In December of 1950, the corporation purchased the Williams exchange from Max Hosea, and in June 1951, the Plainville Telephone Company was purchased. In April 1952, several miles of cable were placed, and the first Stromberg-Carlson automatic dial office was put into service in 1954. That same year, the corporation moved into a new building in Montgomery.

Daviess-Martin County Rural Telephone Corporation, better known as RTC Communications, was incorporated as a non-profit corporation on October 27th, 1949, by a group of 45 farmers. Founded by farmers, the company has deep roots in our business community from agriculture, manufacturing, service, retail, healthcare, education, and government services This group of men purchased the Montgomery, Epsom, and Glendale telephone exchanges, known as the MEG Telephone System, from Louis Roundtree who had acquired them from Midwest Telephone Co. in the early 1940s.
